The city of Naples is located near Mount Vesuvius, the active volcano famous for destroying the ancient Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum.
Naples is a city of art and architecture and the Cathedral of San Gennaro, full of frescoes, is the perfect example. The most interesting historical sites are the Royal Palace and the Maschio Angioino, a 13th century building.
But there are also many other sites of interest such as the historical centre, the Sansevero Chapel with the Veiled Christ, San Carlo Theatre, San Gregorio Armeno, the Castel dell’Ovo, the Galleria Umberto, Spaccanapoli and the National Archaeological Museum.
Enriched over the years by finds from Herculaneum, Pompeii, and other excavation sites, by treasures belonging to the Farnese family and by numerous acquisitions and donations, the Archaeological Museum represents one of the richest and most important collections of classic antiquities in the world. It hosts priceless works of art from every artistic field, from sculpture to painting, from ceramics to mosaics, sometimes so numerous that in a small place like this it’s impossible not only to mention them all but even to remember all the most precious ones.
Naples is also the home of pizza, known to be one of the best culinary specialties of Southern Italy. During our lunch break, we will recommend you the best restaurants where to taste the real Neapolitan Margherita pizza, discovering its true flavours and colours.
